The protest was against Souithwark Council's downgrading of the identity of Herne Hill. This matter was debated at the full council executive last Thursday and a rather dismissive reply was given to Toby but no dount this will not be taken lying down.

SAFER NEIGHBOURHOOD TEAMS

we have one in the Herne Hill ward and the Mayor has announced that all remaining wards in London ( another 340 and including Village Ward will have a team in place. Timnetables move but at present APril is being quoted.
The news teams will have 4 officers instead of the present 6. I think this is to allow for recruitment and officers can be added at a later date.
The Herne Hill team has a community panel made up of local people and the forum has three
reps on it. They meet quarterly and discuss crime and priorities. They last met 10th January.
Considerable progress has been made in problems tackled. The great benefit is that the policing can be proactive rather than reactive also a necessary service nevertheless).
