LOCAL RESIDENT KILLED IN ROAD ACCIDENT CLOSE TO THE MILKWOOD ROAD FOOT TUNNEL
On Monday evening about 8pm a local resident was knocked down and killed returning to his home in Milkwood Road. The accident occured outside Oborne Close.

HERNE HILL RESIDENT ON SHORTLIST FOR £25K WHITBREAD AWARD
Rachel Zadok, 33 until recently a waitress at Pullens Dining Room, Herne Hill has been shortlisted for the Whiibread Award for her fiirst novel GEM SQUASH TOKOLOSHE. Its about the realtionship of a SouthAfrican girl and her mentally ill mother and reflects Rachel's own experiences in being brought up under the apartheid regime.
Earlier in the year she won a publishing deal via "RICHARD AND JUDY " programme on the strength of submitting the first chapter of this her first novel- there were 46,000 entries.
The Whitbread Award has five categories. The winners of the five categories then go forward for the Whitbread Book of the Year.
RACHEL' success has been extensivley covered in Wednesday's national dailies and will be on this evenings BBC regional News at 10.30 programme .
The Whitbread Award is one of the country's top literary prizes. The novel has already sold 45,000 copies.

RUSKIN WALK SPEEDING AND RAT RUNNING.
Residetns attended the Dulwich Community Council recently to petition for measures to tackle
speeding and congestion in Ruskin Walk. They are seeking a one way system in view of the restrictions caused by parking both sides making it impossible for two vehicles to pass.
Councillors were also asked to look for a solution that would not have displacement impact on other streets.

NEW SPEEDING SIGN FOR HERNE HILL
Following a campaign by local reidents Lambeth will shortly be installing a Variable Speed sign
warning vehicles when they exceed 30mph on the approach down Herne Hill to Ruskin Walk and Kestrel Avenue

LAMBETH TO MOVE REFUSE LORRIES TO MAHATIMA GHANDI , MILKWOOD ROAD.
THERE IS ONE DOWNSIDE TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE MUCH NEEDED Academy in SHakespeare Road and that is the proposal to move the refuse trucks to Mahatma Ghandi. Residents are concerned about the disruption and vehicle movements espeically early in the day 5.30am onwards when staff arrive and trucks go out.
Another minus is th 40 redundancies issued to staff at Abel and Cole. They employ over 100 people and are moving their distribution depot to Wimbledon but the packing will now be done at Andover and its the packers who will suffer most. Help is being given to remploy staff. Abel Cole are suppliers of organic fruit and vegetables to households through a home delivery scheme.
They also have a special discounted scheme for over 100 schools . Jessop school being one.

motoring laws.

Following the recent consultations the project team paid a visit to the Heritage Lottery Board offices in Sloane Square for a pre bid discussion. The wish list for Brockwell Park far exceeds a regional bid of £5million so priorities were discussed.
We now have until end of March 06 to ge our bid together. There are many complexities
and additional match funding to be identified.
