HERNE HILL STATION IMPROVEMENTS

What is needed. How about that enormous puddle that you have to trip around every time we have rain- AH well thats a long standing problem. As for the 370m just allocated for accessibility-
will we perhaps get a slice ofof this for easier access for people with difficulties. probably not
as there are two platforms and even if you get up there access to trains is difficult.

Herne Hill is probably one of Lambeths 3 key stations. with Vauxhall and Streatham the others.
SWe need to start a campaign to examin the areas where we want improvements and start pressing for upgrade.
You only have to look at North Dulwich where hundreds of thousands have been spent and are still being spent restoring the listing builind and passanged facilitiues. They have even installed an original Victorian fireplace in the booking hall. North Dulwich's improvements are being funded by the Railways, EnglishHeritage,Lambeth Council( thats what its says!!)
Heren Hill Buildings are listed so lets get cracking.

Bus Route 68X and Bus Lane Kestrel Ave to Poplar Walk

1. 68X: this Express Bus travels non-stop Norwood (where it stops 3 times) to Waterloo through Herne Hill. Those suffering vibrations on Herne Hill know of its existence: however, if we have to have it, why does it not stop in Herne Hill, say, outside Sainsbury's Local in both directions? At least northbound. People won't necessarily wait for it in Herne Hill northbound, but it would be great to take this bus if it wasn't full. Let's mount a campaign about this.
2. Bus Lane: after a number of negotiations there appears a good possibility that the hours will be reduced to 0700 -1000 and 1600 - 1900. It would be marvellous if this could be achieved as the whole bus lane on Herne Hill between these points serves no purpose whatsoever.

HERNE HILL CONTROLLED PARKING ZONE REVIEW

At the recent Herne Hill Forum meeting the Chair stated that it would be useful to make the Herne Hill CPZ serve residents and traders, rather than just keep out commuters. To that end he suggested the following:

1. that the zone's times should be revised to 1200-1500 Mon-Fri only, instead of the current draconian 0830-1830. This will mean that, outside those hours, people may go about their business, shop, visit surgeries, playgroups etc. in all the streets in the zone, and thus relieve parking pressure in streets outside the zone. Herne Hill Forum has learned that some other residents groups will press for this.
2. that the current short-term free bays in Half Moon Lane, Stradella and Winterbrook Roads be increased from 20 minutes to 30. This would greatly assist the traders.

When filling in Consultation Papers you may wish to bear the above in mind.

CANNABIS FESTIVAL AND RALLY. 15TH MAY

The is much controversy in the Cannabis world at present over the who does what. The Cannabis education and march and Rally co-orinaotr Andrew Cornwell has stated in the SLp 8th
April that Shane Collins is not connected with the organisation of this event.
Shane of course has been the promoter of the Brockwell Park festival. Shane has been invited to speak at the Main Rally probably in Trafalgar Suqre as a rep of the Lambeth Green Party Drugs group. It seems that the March organisers have been quite happy in the past to organise their event on the back of Shanes local contacts and popularity but now that Lambeth have trned down the fesitval they are crapping on him ( and ipso fact the people of Lambeth and Herne Hil) .l

This is the site at the junction with croxted Road , formerly M&T printers
A new planning application has been submitted yyo provide 43 units of accommodation, many of them will be studio units. and I understand half will be affordable housing.
The present outline consent is for 14 flats and 6 shops.

BUSINESS CHANGES

The Prince of India seems to have closed its doors, but there is work going on behind the closed shutters-

Junction Proposals
Lambeth have made suggestions to alter the consulted scheme to includ a bus access into REailton Road from the Norwood Road and a service vehicle entrance.
The Forum Steering group and Committee considered these at a recent special meeting and ruled them as being unsafe and iunworkable.

At a further meeting spcially convened to discuss this with Rymer St, Hurst St and Traders to which about 24 people came they were also ruled as being unaccpetable with nem con.

CONTROLLED PARKING ON THE SOUTHWARK SIDE

The present pakring zone stretching from Croxted Road Norwood Road Half Moon Lane and the side roads off will be reviewed with new proposals being shown in May.
The new proposals include adding Carver Ruskin Howletts and Warmington.

Ther will allso be proposals for a new small scheme in the proximity of north Duwlcih Station.
As soon as the email version of the proposals is avilable we shall send it out.
There is a sum of £21k available for the extension

Mott ,macdonald the consultatns have taken heed of the maqny suggestions that have been sent in since the scheme started and may include some of them inclugin the extension of the scheme up Burbage Road in view of the present displacement from Stradella and Winterbrook Road. Apparently nannies can be seen reghularly moving their cars into the uncontrolled area.
