We support the Friends of Brockwell Park...

... says John Wentworth, Headteacher at Corpus Christi School in Trent Road Brixton.
in today's South London Press.

The pupils and families of the school use Brockwell Park regularly. So I was interested to read your recent correspondence regarding the Friends of Brockwell Park.
We have always found the Friends to be an inclusive and welcoming group, who try hard to involve all sections of the community in their work. We have been invited to a range
of activities , including tree planting ceremonies and are kept up to date with developments via their newsletter and website. We were especially pleased recently when a member of the Friends took the trouble to do a survey of the use of the Lido car park . Paul was able to report that a significant number of our families use the car park
to leave their cars and walk the children through the park to the school. Any proposal
to unfairly restrict use of the car park would make this activity very difficult for these families.
Brockwell Park is very fortunate to have such a hard working and committed group of enthusiasts. They deserve all our support.

Herne Hill is outside the geographical area nor is the scheme within their priority themes. ( to check what these are go to www.lda.gov.uk
Ms Shawcross, who has been reappointed as chair of the London Fire Authority,
points out that Lambeth have put in a bid to TFL Seltrans for pedestrianisation and environmental improvements at TULSE HILL STATION.

The junction steering group meets with Lambeth Transport 24th Sept and we understand that a bid has been put into to Seltrans.

DANGER AT HERNE HILL JUNCTION ILLEGAL LEFT TURN OUT OF RAILTON ROAD

In my mission to get a life I spent two hours at the junction on Friday between 3.30and 5.30
and recorded 53 illegal left turns. We can become almost blase to this except of course when you nearly get hit .There was one poingant moment, when a young 8 yearold school girl approached
the crossing by the Crusty Cob reached up to press the cross button. She stopped and then crossed
on the green man, as she was approaching the middle a car wheekt round very fast. She was not anware of this. It could have been so different.

We will be pressing for some form enforcement and will continue to press for a mobile camera,
although Lambeth is unable to offer this service, not having the capacity to enter the pilot scheme currently operating in six boroughs.

ROAD JUNCTION SCHEME .............

took a further step forward when a site meeting took place Friday 10th with the Executive members for regeneration for Lambeth ,Andrew Sawdon and Richard Thomas, Southwark.
The project is being led by Lambeth although it involves some boundary roads, chiefly Norwood Road.
The rough estimates are £1m of which £650K has been identified so far.
English Heritage have this week given formal aprroval to move the park boundary of Brockwell Park and redesign the entrance at the Herne Hill Gate,
( this meeting organised by the Herne Hill Forum )

POST OFFICE CLOSES AND MOVES

Herne Hill post office will close at its present site on 15th September and re open at Costcutters in Norwood Road. On
20th Sept. New management is running the business following the sudden departure of Mr. Patel

It looks like the Rosendale Road branch will not be saved.
The campaign continues to establish one branch at Loughborough Junction to replace the two proposed clsures.

HERNE HILL ROAD JUNCTION

ENGLISH HERITAGE are supporting the proposal to slightly move the park boundary in the area of the Herne Hill Gate inv view of the redesign gain and the removal of inappropriate features there.

RAILTON PASSAGE

Aka Pullen's Alley or to give its original name Vyse's Alley named after Thomas
Vyse, who owned the land in that area before the station was opened in 1862.
Following a local campaign the Brixton Area Committee awarded £8k to close the Alley in view of the crime levels and its a good get away route.
It is a right of way but recent legislation empowered local authorities a fast track closure. There is planning application in for the gates either end.
Locals and residents have ideas to enhance the green and grotty space and Network Rail have indicated that they would make the banking available.

REGENERATION
Have you noticed the following.
The following are taking additional units to expand their business on the Norwood Road
Olleys Fish Restaurant,
Steves Cafe
Brockwells Bar
Activity has started at thge old Crusty Cob possibly a catering outlet.
Ruben has opened next the to the Commercial selling ex catalogue goods.
The Brockwell Park Tavern is closed for a major refurbishment with and will reopen as a bar and steak house.
The Commercial is due to close at the end of the month for another major refurbishment
The two units next to Bolands in Half Moon Lane are nearing completion- one might be a florist.

SOUTHWARK TRANSPORT ARE THEY SERVING US WELL??- THE FORUM HAS ISSUES AND IT APPEARS TO BE BORNE OUT BY THIS REPORT.

A consultant brought in to help steer the Transport Department through a difficult transitional stage has been sacked for spending part of his time viewing pornographic web sites.
Is this the kind of professional attitude and work ethic that will be applied to the reorganisation of the Tranposrt and Traffic Group. Clr Hargrove is unhappy with this state of affairs "as the management of traffic and transport across Southwark is going from bad to worse. "
