CIVIC AWARD MAUDE ESTWICK
Congratulations to Maude Estwick who received her award from the Mayor OF Lambeth. Maude is chair of the Milkwood Residents Association whose work over the last three years has resulted in a £300K regeneration of the Milkwood Open Space. The opening ceremony will take place at the park on 19th June. all welcome in the afternoon.
Maude has recently announced a further award of £100k from
the Living Space Fund an initiative from the ODPM.
Milkwood RA are the only group in the country to have received this full award.The take up was so great that maximum grants were reduced to £25k to is pays to get in quick. See SLP 28.05 for photo.

In the SLP of 28th May Clr, Anthony Bottrall, Executive Member for Education laid out the admistration's general strategy to improve secondary schools in the Borough.
Two new secondary schools and two City Academies.
The salient points from Cl. Bottralls letter are

BUS SHELTER OUTSIDE HERNE HILL STATION
This has been removed after being hit by a bus!!.
We have asked Lambeth not to replace it as the Victorian canopy affords good shelter and the modern one reduced the field of vision of the security camera.He has agreed.

FLOOD DAMAGE CLAIM
Does anyone know a solicitor who would do a test claim
for uninsured losses for two traders ate Herne Hill.
I have got email confirmation that neither borough was maintaining the Southwark boundary drains so a duty of care claim could be pursued. Clr Peter Oconnell from Lambeth could probably add some useful background.

The Forum has developed a plan to improve pedestrian safety bus movements and quality of life for people living close to the Junction especially Rymer St.
We arelooking for an artist to give us a sketch of our vision for a new entrance to Brockwell Park which will include moving the railings about 10 metres and demolishing existing structures there.

NORWOOD ROAD SHORT TERM PARKING
The forum has been approached by several shopkeepers to ask for enforcement of the short term bays currenty used for alll day parking and car sales.
We have asked Parking services to look into this.
I confirmed today that there is no enforcement taking place during the day. This is important now as the short term parking is being used as one of the benefits of trasfering the post office to Costcutters.

BROCKWELL PARK DOG INCIDENT
PC Duncan Harris advises us that the incident of dog attack took place in the garages under Herne Hill House
( Tower Block and that the injured dog was brought to the
park and subsequently died there from inhalation of vomit.) The RSPCA have become involved and ther may be something in Fridays SLP>

DULKWICH COMMUNITY COUNCIL IS IT SERVING THE PUBLIC.
ANOTHER MARATHON ENDING AT 11.40PM
The main meeting again spent disproportionate amounts of time in minor issues such as vehicles in Dulwich Park.
Again an rapid presentation of a proposal with inadequate visual aids to rush through the sale of the Darrell Road COMMUNITY CENTRE. The DCC supported a deferral but the decsision is being made by the Executive.

No one was there fromn the Administration to take questions or make a statement on the devastation in Herne Hill. NOR did the DCC have anything to say.I was was allowed to raise it under Soap Box, without any comment from Councillors

This event is taking place at the same time as the Funfair.
Through the Friends of the Park we are ensuring that appropriate stewarding/ policing takes place.And that the issue of finishing time is addressed

DOG KILLED IN BROCKWELL PARK
In a nasty incident by the Lido Monday about mid-day two young men with a stafforshire bull terrier ordered it to kill a passing dog. This happened and they ran off. A major police operation took place with up 15 officers searching the area.

To night the Residents are holding their first meeting. Last year a few got together to address concerns over the derilict lodges in Brockwell Park. Recently Wendy Bevan-Mogg raied the issue of dangerous driving along the Nowrood Road between Trinity Rise and Brockwell Park Gardens and has been successfull in getting this on the Council's agenda thanks to support from Clr. Clare Whelan.

Tessa Jowell will be arranging a joint meeting with Lambeth and Southwark, Thames Water,Police and Fire Brigade to assess the responses to the disater and what remedial action can be taken.

Cafe Prov, where traders were invited to attend, Mimosa, Bolands, Kindred Bakers ,Moon Lane Book Shop and Artemidorus. a large part of the visit was spent in basements.
